VesselMan is proud to announce a new client relationship with Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS). PGS is a leader in the offshore seismic industry and operates the market’s youngest fleet which consists of eight 3D vessels (six in the low season). What is the best and easiest way to digitalize your ship management operations? Try implementing standard collaboration processes and smart apps to cut costs and become more automated and transparent.
Technical management has been unchanged for 20 years
Office-based management of technical operations and projects for ships relies upon manual operations, Word, complex Excel spreadsheets, and time-consuming email collaboration, tracking, and reporting. As a result, most operations are people dependent, fragile, and unpredictable, leading to unplanned off hire and costly additional work. No wonder it is hard to achieve transparency.
It has been this way for more than twenty years.
It is time we digitalize costly operations and cut costs
VesselMan and Kognifai will help you reduce costs and risks by ensuring a systematic process for management of needed repairs, based on smart data from the vessels. Since VesselMan is fully integrated in Kognifai, you draw full advantage of the internet of things and sensor-based data in intelligent maintenance apps and projects.

VesselMan’s applications for effective dry-docking and repair management will be added to Kognifai, KONGSBERG’s digital platform.
Kongsberg Digital and VesselMan have entered into a partnership agreement which makes VesselMan part of KONGSBERG’s digital ecosystem for the Kognifai platform.
“There is a great difference between being a small Norwegian company on its own and being part of the global distribution platform that KONGSBERG represents,” says Stig Linna, CEO of VesselMan. “For us, it is very important to be part of a secure, scalable platform. As part of KONGSBERG’s digital platform, we can concentrate on our core business and let KONGSBERG handle scalability, security issues – and all the other important things that customers have to take into consideration with a global, cloud-based solutions.”
“VesselMan is the perfect match for both our ecosystem and Kognifai, our digital platform,” states Jørn Seglem, SVP Digital Platform and Analytics at Kongsberg Digital. “One of the key aspects of our digital platform strategy is to bring innovation from third parties to our customers to enable them to optimize efficiency and break the cost curve. VesselMan will add new, valuable innovation and collaboration to our ecosystem, and their applications will go hand in hand with the segment of applications for the maritime industry on Kognifai.”
Matthew Robert Cagienard Duke, VP Digital Platform at Kongsberg Digital points out that dry-docking and retro-fitting constitute a considerable part of the expense for a typical shipper, and that any tool that can disrupt that and help both shippers and shipyards with a more efficient process is very important.
“In KONGSBERG, we believe that having an open digital platform and an open ecosystem is essential for the customers’ benefit,” adds Duke. “VesselMan’s solution is an example of a product that we wanted to add to our digital platform because it can digitalize a difficult and paper-based process. Our platform will guarantee added support for the solution and make it available to many customers that we truly believe are going to benefit from using it.”
VesselMan’s cloud-based management system will now be made available on Kognifai where it will provide customers with new ways to cut costs, save time, and improve quality. Among other things, it facilitates defined planning processes, remote process monitoring, and online information sharing. Customers can use it on top of their existing systems from KONGSBERG and other partners on the Kognifai platform and be certain of operational execution of their defined procedures and HSEQ requirements.

The main problem today is that many of the most critical and costly operations is executed the same way that as it was done 25 years ago, managed by manual operations, complex excel spread sheets and time consuming tracking and reporting.
Dry-docking projects stands for a large portion of the total cost of operating a vessel and is a good candidate for digitalization in order to aim for better transparency and cost reduction!
Digital collaboration and cost reductions
VesselMan tracking and reporting module is developed in close collaboration with experienced Norwegian fleet managers and superintendents.
We believe that we in the near future will see Yards and contractors working directly into VesselMan in a digital collaboration process, where management will have a transparent and always updated view of status, and the Superintendents can focus more on quality and people instead of time consuming reporting!
Reporting to Management and stakeholders
Authorized users can use their notepads or browsers to get status-reports from on-going projects, always updated.
The data is based on actual status on jobs, invoices and purchase orders, without any magic excel operations! All the jobs are classified in a way that makes the management report reflect cost breakdown structures on main groups, cost activity codes and project codes.
Easy to track progress
The Superintendent operates an easy to use tracking app in order to update progress and keep track of costs. Variation orders and cancelled jobs are effectively managed. VesselMan will automatically produce status-reports and the final docking report based on the tracking, no more duplicate work!
All the remarks and reports produced during the docking are easily saved to each job and managed for later use.
